This will be a crash course with information on what to look for, how medium/size/condition etc. influences financial value, preservation, display and storage (amongst other things). Breakdown of what will be covered: • Training your eye and developing your taste • Motivation for collecting • Developing and editing your collection • Art media and associated costs • Working within a budget • Tips for displaying the collection • Q&A Alexandra (Sasha) Dubodel is an art historian and a metalsmith based in Troy, NY. Dubodel received her MA in Art History from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, and her BA in Art History from Union College. Prior to moving to Troy earlier this year to dedicate more time to her own studio practice, Dubodel had her own art gallery in Tribeca, has been involved in a research capacity with the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and has served on the curatorial team for projects executed at institutions in the United States and Europe, including the Berlin Akademie Der Künste, LA MOCA, the Drawing Center in New York, and the Canadian Center for Architecture, Montreal among others. For the past six years she was the Vice President and a Specialist at a fine art auction house in New York City, focusing on in-house-projects and acting as a research consultant for various institutions including the New York Stock Exchange and lenders of exhibitions to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. When not silversmithing in her Rasvet Jewelry Co studio here in Troy, Dubodel continues to work as a private dealer on the secondary market, consultant and researcher.
