Rachel Baxter abstract painting at Scarlet Seven Gallery
Rachel Baxter - Reclaiming
Acrylic & Spray Paint on canvas
36" x 60"

Rachel Baxter is an artist living and working in Troy, NY. Her work is motivated by her interest in processes and materials that hold an inherent ability to transform. Through experimenting with techniques such as oxidizing metals, drawing with smoke, and suspending pigment in water as it evaporates, Baxter exposes the other unseen forces she harnesses; gravity and time. Concerned with the threshold between order and chaos, Baxter attempts to balance the unexpected with the deliberate. She received her BFA from The College of Saint Rose in 2011 and her MFA from Indiana University in 2014. After her graduate studies Baxter went on to be an artist in residence at The Sitka Fellows Program, in Sitka, Alaska. She has shown nationally and internationally, as well as given artist talks at Herron School of Design, Butler University, The Printmakers Association of Iceland in Reykjavík and other universities and organizations. She is one of the founding artists of The Church, a growing artist collective located here in Troy and has organized multiple pop up events in the region. This past fall Baxter completed her second public mural in downtown Albany, which was made possible through a partnership with the Albany Parking Authority, Albany Center Gallery, and the Albany Barn and is located at the intersection of Water Street and Columbia.
